Have you seen the Great Pyramids of Giza in person? Well, if not, this blog is going to take you there. Before I reached the pyramids of Giza, I visited another pyramid called Saqqara also known as the step pyramid which was built before the pyramids of Giza. Earlier, our guide had told us to go inside another pyramid nearby to Saqqara, called pyramid Unas. I was looking forward to this, imagining myself walking chamber to chamber seeing all of the objects that once belonged to a living person. But I was wrong. To enter the pyramid, I needed to bent down a bit as the entrance was very steep and narrow. But I got a closer look at the walls and was surprised that the whole pyramid is made of granite. As soon as I got to the end, I saw a room with walls full of hieroglyphics. I could read some of them, as I have learned about them at school. There was also another room where I saw a tomb. Luckily, there was no mummy in it. It was just one empty tomb. I thought of becoming an archaeologist when I grow up, but then, I remembered that every mummy has a curse within them. So, I stopped thinking about it. There was also a bad, musty smell in the pyramid, but I figured out that it must be because of the long time it has stood in the desert.

After this, we took a lot of pictures in front of Saqqara. I was already starting to feel both cold and hot and I also felt tired. Next, we headed to…… the Pyramids of Giza!

Saqqara

As soon as we entered the gate to the pyramids of Giza, we saw a horse stable. Nearby, I saw a camel stable too. There was a man who is a trip agent and he took us to a room and closed the door. In the room, there was a map stuck to the wall. He explained in detailed about the three types of trips to us – small, medium, and large. In the small trip, we can see 1 of the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. For the medium, 3 of the pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and its temple. For the large, 9 of the pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, its temple, tombs, and a mountain with a beautiful view of the 9 pyramids of Giza. We had to choose one of these trips and pay for it. We didn’t have time because we had to visit the Great Egyptian Museum after this, but that’s another story! Anyways, we only had about 1 hour so we had to think hard. While we were talking about it, the man said that we can pay the medium price and he will give us the large trip. He also said that if we don’t have time then he can do the trip quickly and make it 1 hour. It was the best offer he could give, so we took it. Next, we had to choose our transport. The options were, horse, camel, or a carriage. Since my parents were not comfortable with riding on a horse or a camel, we took the carriage. At first, the horse was running very fast and it was a very bumpy ride. After few minutes, it started stopping then and there because the poor horse was tired.

Eventually, I saw the famous Sphinx ( a body of a lion and a head of a pharaoh)! But unfortunately I managed to take just one picture of it because the horse was running too fast at that point.

We kept on going until we saw the 1st one among the pyramids of Giza! At that point, my dad told the driver to stop so we could take a picture. It looked so huge as we were very close to the pyramid.

After, we kept on going until we reached the mountain. There was indeed a beautiful view of all of the 9 pyramids of Giza! There are 3 big ones for the kings (father, son, grandson) and 6 small ones for the queens (mother, daughter, sisters).

If you are ready to have a really bumpy ride around the whole place and walk a bit, then you will definitely like this trip. For me, I loved this trip as I was very excited to see one of the seven wonders of the world!
